Can I unlock my iPhone without the carrier and if so what does it cost?

Three have denied my unlock request but I have heard I can purchase unlock codes online or in repair shops. Is this true and if so what would be the going rate for an iPhone 7?

You can’t be under contract on an iPhone 7 so why won’t they unlock it for you?

It's my old work phone and was under a business contract with them. Only the admin staff in my old job can request an unlock which is not possible for me at this stage.

Worth asking in one of the slightly dodgy phone repair places if they can unlock it but I’m not sure if they can unlock any of the newer style phones

I thought it was legal to unlock your phone via a third party although the carrier's do not approve of it
