    Renault fluence 2014 , 175,000 km

Tikitok noise coming out of it, sounds like a tractor now when revved it, really disappointed I haven't even finished paying the bloody car, below is the video of it:

Had it for 2 years and it's always serviced on time every 10,000km fully synthetic oil and all.

I have 1 more year to go to get it fully paid. Any idea what it could be? Send the video to my friend he said it could be valve/hydraulic lifter but his not sure, any opinions what it could be?

Could be an injector, they go bad on the 1.5 and can often bend rods so get it checked out asap

They do give injector trouble when the mileage starts to get on the high side

I listened to this video, and it sound the same.

Injectors will sound similar when they go bad, can you hear it when driving? If you go down a hill and take your foot off the accelerator but leave it in gear and it goes away then it's an injector

Is it worth it getting looked at by the original dealer, €130 + vat.

I am planning on getting back tinted this year for the baby cause of the sun 🌞

Find a good indy rather than the dealer is my advice

Found a way to muffle the annoying ticking sound temporarily, R Sound effect app from r-link store bought it for €5 - installed it on the fluence and I can choose from moto gp, clio cup, clio v6, laguna coupe and space ship sound 😂🤣😄 absolutely funny, it respond to acceleration and everything 😄 🤣 only found out recently i should have bought it ages ago.

And funny thing was just saw from carwow the other day an EV amg merc with fake engine sound 🤣😂

Seriously as funny as that is get it checked out asap, one journey with an injector that lets go is the difference between a new injector and a new engine

    heed mk7r's warning.

If you're driving along on a clear sunny day but it looks like a foggy morning out the rear mirror you've pushed it too far

I have it booked tomorrow morning, fingers crossed. I was looking online a new injector is €300 is that right.

Yeah €300 sounds like a fair enough price, probably get one a bit cheaper but it's an integral component of the fuel system and likely will only need changing once in the cars life

Plus fitting and they need to be coded in too.

The mechanic said its the hydraulic valve liter, he said it doesn't sound like an injector cause no loss of power and it will throw an error code.

He said pretty normal for old, high mileage diesel engine, he said it's still fine to drive, nothing major, but If I am really bothered with the ticking sound, I could be spending €800+ above just to get the lifter replaced and he will not do it, he said it has to be done by renault main garage. Well I don't know I think I'll leave it for now.

Injectors will not cause a loss of power or throw a code for that type of failure.....id get a new mechanic

Can you hear the noise when you are driving?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 808 ✭✭✭FrankC21

I can hear the diesel engine industrial sound with the windows closed, and when I am driving on 2nd gear around our estate with window down I can hear the ticking noise when I revved up then when I let go of the gas the noise will slowly died down.

Last time I tried what you suggested driving down hill without pressing the gas, I can hear the ticking but couldn't figure out whether it's the normal diesel engine sound.

he was actually working on a renault scenic with same 1.5 dci with an injector problem he explained to me that it was throwing error.

I am thinking of bringing it to another mechanic for 2nd opinion

From your video I'd give a few suggestions,Frank.

I'd lean towards valve train rather than injectors & there is a slight miss in the engine.

First you'll need to identify which cylinder. If you want you could remove the injectors & get them tested to rule them out or do a compression test.

Or you could remove rocker cover to check valve clearances - I don't think they are hydraulic tappets in that engine. In that case it could be a weak valve spring or a worn lobe on the camshaft.

In any case it's labour intensive, probably why your mechanic suggested leaving it alone if it's not too bad yet.

You lost me man, Well i think ill leave it and run the car until it gives up, engine related issues equals more money, well i am really disappointed i always get it serviced on time with quality oil and filter never miss a beat, all 4 tyres new michelin, its a good car decent fuel economy, cant blame the car it almost travels everyday up and down louth dublin probably wear and tear, sure nothing last forever.
