Not only that he won, it appears he won by a landslide and may have over 50% which will make opposition powerless for the next 4 years. 4th consecutive term, 12 years up to this day with another 4 in front of them... He must be doing something right isn't it?

Cyprus is stable politically and has been since the 1970s. They joined in 2004. Despite joining the EU as a de facto divided island, the whole of Cyprus is EU territory. Turkish Cypriots who have, or are eligible for, EU travel documents are EU citizens. EU law is suspended in areas where the Cypriot government (Government of the Republic) does not exercise effective control.
This is just Step 1 of 3, where Serbia and all the others are stalled.
For new accession candidates, i.e. since 2005, preparations to be in a position to properly apply and enforce EU law and implementation of judicial, administrative, economic and other reforms necessary for the country to meet the conditions for joining. That also includes not landing the EU with territorial disputes.
