Heights of current male cabinet members

Is the current government cabinet unusually tall? Varadkar, Coveney, Ryan, M. Martin, McConalogue, Harris all look tall or very tall. O'Brien, McGrath and O'Gorman tall average. Donnelly and O'Donoghue short average.

I could be off with this as heights are not published but read that Varadkar is 6 foot 4 so am benchmarking the others against him.

In the modern era, given the importance of "looking the part", is there a stronger correlation than ever between being tall and being in a position of power. It is also apparent in other areas too - for instance in Formula 1, several team bosses (e.g Toto Wolff) are clearly well above 6 foot as is the new race director.

Given that women are attracted to tall men and powerful men, if being tall makes it easier to become powerful, it's a double hit for short men.

Varadkar and Ryan look about the same height in photos where they are standing beside each other. Ryan also has a stronger build. Martin looks about 3 inches shorter than Varadkar. No way are any of them only 5 foot 10.

What record. Look at M. Martin standing beside Bertie Ahern and Bertie Ahern standing beside Tony Blair or George W Bush (5'11.5" which is an official record)

Ryan is larger again, laughable to say he is 5'10" All photos of him beside others show him to be tall and even in isolation, his body proportions are those of a tall man.

Looks like it won't be long before the incel accusations start flying, you nearly got there but not quite.

There is also potential for a serious discussion here on height and how it affects perception of leadership qualities etc. It is well known that CEOs of US corporations tend to be taller than average.

im very tall myself and have never once found it any advantage in any walk of life including when it comes to women , I personally could not give a damn what height a politician is , I cant stand Michael D but not because he is 5 ft 1 or whatever ?

Some of the responses are telling, who gives a ****, shortarses and so on.

Leaders who are or are perceived to be short are routinely mocked for this. Zelenskyy hasn't been so far as anyone who says a bad word about him is regarded as evil

OTOH Putin's height is regularly mentioned to reinforce the other (valid) negative comments on him. Also Sarkozy, Michael D and others get this. I don't think Higgins is as short as people think and would say he is closer to the average male height than Varadkar is. Yet I don't see any negative stuff about Varadkar being a "beanpole".

If we compare with other prejudices, research has shown that white people subconsciously associate black people with apes but society has tried to stamp that out. Short men may be subconsciously associated with children and society hasn't attempted to stamp that out. In fact, people will double down and go for the "angry shortarses" comments and try to shut down discussion.

I'm 6'2" and was surprised years ago when Leo knocked at my door canvassing for election to see he was a couple of inches taller than me so 6'4 sounds right. He was a lot heavier back then too which made him look even bigger.

Taller males are more likely to be powerful and successful as female hotties are genetically and hormonally programmed to find them attractive seeing them as alpha males and, in this case, vote for them on the basis of their reproductive hormones rather than their policies.
