Shimano Ultegra 6800 Crank arm (53-39 172.5) snapped

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone out there has a similar crank arm or crank set for sale (new or used) that would suit my bike {Shimano Ultegra 6800 Crank arm (53-39 172.5)}? .Photos attached.

I was out for the first spin of the year today and snapped the crank arm. Weather is looking great for the weekend so I'd love to get out for it. Any help much appreciated. I'm based in Waterford.

52/36 one here with chainrings but no bolts or non drive side crank.

Snap! Literally. Only 20 mins ago got a whatsapp from a mate - exact same issue with an ultegra crank today.

There's a fair bit about it on the web with shimano hollowgram / hollowtech cranks. It's not uncommon.

53/39 could be a different bcd to 52/36 but just offered up a possible solution for you.

sure didn't WA and Mercian Pro both snap ultegra cranks on the same ride?

Not unusual at all for the 6800 model. Have a quick search and you’ll find plenty of reports. R8000 doesn’t seem to have the same issue. I’ve heard of a few cases locally and all were replaced out of warranty so maybe try to engage with a local dealer.

Same BCD (110mm) and will work fine once it's 172.5mm. You transfer youre rings 53/39 and bolts straight over with no front mech adjustment needed.

Note if you're not super powerful and maybe not a frequent cyclist I'd consider using 52/36 rings. May need to drop front mech slightly and adjust front gear cable then though

Yeah, I dunno, I've two bikes at home on 6800 and I've had a lot of bikes before that with the same crank and no issues so it certainly wouldn't put me off. There's sram, rotor, fsa as well, though I don't know much about rotor myself. In the current climate it's more about what you can get in stock and what's not overpriced. If you don't mind the label downgrade then 105 is an easy solution too.

Same happened to mine! WA helped me out with a replacement. Just a note, if you go with a R8000 replacement the chain rings won't swap over
