    Hi folks

Have had flights booked for Malaga (flying there last week of May for 9 nights)

Haven’t been there since I was a child. Heading with girlfriend (late 20s)

Any idea of best options to stay? Apartments (with pool would be essential) probably the best bet. No real interest in AirBnB. Self catering ideal

Doesn’t have to be near beach - Just keeping an eye on prices and seeing them creep up now so want to sort!

Thanks in advance for any help

How far away from the airport do you want to travel? West of malaga some places are easily done by train and then beyond that your into taxis or transfers.

If it's a pool and sun that you want, anywhere along the coast as far as Fuengirola is perfect and as mentioned, easily accessible by train from Malaga airport. You just have to google or use Booking.com.

I would recommend a few days in Malaga City itself. It is often by passed in order to get to the resorts, but is a fabulous city. Got a great beach, lovely parks and architecture, great shopping and mad bars and tapas. Tenner in a taxi back to the airport or there is a bus for a euro or two also.

    Enjoy your break.

    Thanks lads

Forgot to mention, for accom itself, ideally budget wouldn't go beyond €700 for the 9 nights. We were looking moreso for the usual apartment blocks etc (Fuengirola, Benalmadena...) just for convenience, but Malaga City is an interesting one

Just struggling to find somewhere currently that's half decent within budget really. Within walking distance of a nice town obviously a big plus (not needing taxis etc)

Distance from the airport isn't too relevant I think, but yeh, not wanting to spend a fortune on transfers

    Thanks for the responses!

Go off the beaten tracks get a little place near the Sierra Nevadas. No idea why people go to the worst and most touristic parts of Spain on holidays, it’s a beautiful, beautiful country if you dare to see it. Malaga to Granada and then either rent a car or bus it

Sorry did that sound condescending, I hope you have a lovely trip, how much were your flights?

Not condescending at all, don't worry about that. Tbh that's the thing - We just want to do what we're comfortable with really and know what we'll be getting.

The flights were actually booked with vouchers we had from Aer Lingus from cancelled flights from summer 2020. I think in total for two of us return from Cork to Malaga (including the bag) was €420 I think!

Fuengirola area might be your best bet. Decent public transport links to malaga and airport and handy base for day trips. Touristy but still very spanish in parts and a nice old town with plenty of choice for food especially off the seafront. Malaga city's worth a day trip. Lovely city and not overly touristy

+1 for Malaga city, well worth a visit, was there recently and really liked the city, a lot to do and very good prices for food/drink, I would say it was easily half the price you would spend here.

Rent a car, Malagacar.com or hellehollis.com and open up your world. The town of Estepona is 55 minutes on the AP7 (think empty M50). It’s a beautiful town with great beaches. You won’t have to contend with “the all day English Breakfast” brigade and you will have a great experience. The town of Benahavis is a 20 minute drive and full of fantastic restaurants.

So you have two choices . . . . . . . Go to the usual tourist traps and never see the real Spain or you can open your mind and have a great experience. Driving in Spain is no problem, a basic car should cost €110 for a week. You will save a bundle on taxis etc.

I live there for several months a year so message me for any advice.

We are in Mijas (Calahonda) right now and it's very nice but quiet. If I were you I do Marbella if your budget allows. The old town is stunning and you will be spoiled for choice when going out at night.

The bus system along A7 is very frequent and very cheap if you do not have a car. Taxis are also great value and they have an Uber like app.

Calahondas not a resort or touristy area its more settled residents and 2nd homes but the place could do with a few more up to date modern restaurants and bars. Uber and Bolt apps are handy for getting aroudn down there its cheap enough to get to La Cala or Cabopino.

+1 for malaga city, was there earlier in the month , first time there and loved it, the train gos from airport to malaga centra and all the way down to Fuengirola so no need for taxi or bus, it runs approx. every 15/20 mins and very cheap,
