Entry Requirements to France

My sister booked a flight to France this evening with her partner, the trip is scheduled for the 4th week of April mid week city break kind of thing.

Only issue was when they went to check in her partner cops his passport is due to expire on the 9th of May, does anyone have a definitive answer about the Irish Passport entry requirements to France?

From the quick google I did it seems he will still be okay as he has a valid Irish passport & is travelling within the EU, they are also due to leave the country before his passport expires. I told him to call the dept of foreign affairs tomorrow for proper clarification but throwing it up in case the boards can provide an answer.

I'd imagine he be under pressure to get a passport turned around before they go :D

Once EU passport is valid it's valid for all EU travel up to the day it expires.

If he needs something for travelling in a hurry then use passport express but if just EU then passport card can be gotten

More info on turnaround times here at DFA

True, but the airlines are free to decide who they will board, so better check their rules as well.

No, a passport card only has a validity of 5 years or the expiry date of the passport, whichever is sooner.

They don't need a new passport for this trip but if they'd prefer to get one, standard online renewals are taking just a few days.

She's probably reading English news sites and thinking English rules apply to her

If it was an UK passport it would need to be valid for 3 months after departure date.

But the UK is not in the EU.

Update, he sent an email to the embassy in France, or something in France anyway (the consular in Paris of the Irish DFA) and they responded to him this morning to say his Irish passport is valid for travel to France until the date of expiry so thinking he's probably fine then. I'll let him know to check with the airline too though good shout!

There was no need to contact any Embassy, the information is freely available online.

Re the airline, no need to do that either. Ryanair are the only airline who insist on a passport to travel to the UK but all Irish people need one for travel to France. No airlines have different passport requirements from each other for EU travel.

Eh, sure but I suppose if it put his mind at ease to get it directly from the DFA then what harm? :D
