I have had a Ford Mondeo for the past 7 years. Its a 2007 1.8 TDCI. Failed the NCT this month due to an engine management light being on since October, 364km on the clock.

I have come across a Hyundai i30 van 2016. It seems like it would be really economical. Can anyone advise If these vans are reliable in the 1.4 CRDI and is the price right? Also what are the comfort levels like when it comes to driving?

    Thanks.

They are not great. To be fair, that model i30 is actually an alright-ish car but you'd know all about it getting out of a Mondeo.

Look out for any issues with gear selection, is the pedal stiff to press? Does the clutch bite very low? Is selection notchy? Wouldn't bother woth it if the answer to any of the above is yes.

Those 1.4's have a serious appetite for glow plugs and the glow plugs are seriously prone to snapping on removal, leading to a world of pain. If you need to pre-heat it more than once or there's excessice cranking needed to start it, again, i just wouldn't bother with it.

Make sure all the LED's are working in the DRL's. Replacements are disgustingly expensive and hard to source.

Suspension is made from chocolate too but not too costly to sort.

They're unpleasant enough inside, guarenteed there'll be a hole in the carpet below the clutch pedal and that the paint will be flaking on the gear knob and door handle. Also a guarentee that the buttons on the keyfob will be falling apart.

I wouldn't even recommend going to view one.

@OP How did you decide you want to go from a Ford Mondeo to a Hyundai i30 Van?

Surely a Focus Van or a Renault Megavan might be more suited or another car.

Or just but a proper Van like a Transit or a Transporter if you really want a van.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
