If you're buying a vehicle from the original 'owner-from-new' the reg paper should say which, Zero previous owners

or One previous owner?

Zero owners.

Some may have had the dealer as the first owner, this would be a pre-reg car, usually discounted to the buyer on what the list price would have been.

So to follow from that then, if a reg paper says two owners it really means three owners? The first owner of the vehicle who is registered on the papers as Zero, ie Zero previous owner before they bought it brand new, then the second owner who is registered as One, and the third owner who is registered as owner number two? Or am I wrong?

I always presumed that the first owner would be registered as owner number One in the J.3 section of the reg paper, but I suppose if they bought it brand new with NO previous registered owner, then the paper would indeed have to show Zero previous owners.

The important words on the reg are "number of previous owners". That does not include the current owner. It doesn't include previous UK owners either if it's an import, that should be listed further down the page.

Then my reg paper must be wrong. I bought my jeep from the original bought-from-new owner three years ago, and I presume - I can't remember at this stage - the reg paper said Zero previous owners in the J.3 section, because he bought it direct from the showroom. It isn't an import, and it wasn't a demo jeep registered to the dealer. The only reason I'm wondering now is because it says in the J.3 section the jeep has had two previous owners, NOT including me.

Have to ring Shannon to ask I suppose.
