Sized Lug Nuts*

    Had two of the lug nuts on tyres sized, have no idea what the cause or prevention for this is, does anyone have any tips on this?

    • At least I think that is what they are called, the screws/bolts that hold the tyres on.

    Just do not over torque. Most of tyre shops does not care about customer cars and they use impact wrench all the time. Sure, they make a click-click show after but for that moment the torque is already +400Nm. It is over 3 times higher than recommended!!! Now dream about that, how the customer should be able to remove these lug nuts on road side by tiny manufacturer provided tools? I really do not understand why ever single .... tyre shop operates that way? Why that click-click show if everything is so many times over torqued? It put the customers high risk, because over torqued metal is under big stress and can break any moment.

    Disgraceful really, if I get the tyres changed or a puncture I immediately slacken off the stud bolts when I return home and re tighten with the supplied tool.

    Both actions is very dangerous for car owner. Over torqued or under torqued lug nuts. Both options CAN KILL YOU!

    I do the same, I only had a post up maybe last year about my tyre place using a high torque impact (think Dewalt DCF 899,Milwaukee M18 fuel) to tighten the wheel nuts and THEN hang off them with a breaker bar afterwards to make sure they're tight, thank god I have a very long 1/2" breaker bar and I use an impact socket on the end of it and it's still tough to remove them, ridiculous!

    Are they actually seized? Signs of corrosion, or just they're not budging with immense force, could be the same issue as above with tyre shops smashing them on with an impact wrench, if so, trying to take them off with the tyre iron in the boot is useless and you won't get anywhere.

    I've never personally dealt with a wheel nut rusted on, always just grossly over tightened

    Its what the mechanic said when I called to check if his car was ready, so I have to assume sized is what they were. Tyre had just a few weeks previously been replaced by a tyre franchise.
