What to do about trips longer than 6 weeks after citizenship application?

Non-EU/UK nationals who applied for Irish citizenship, what happens when you take trips longer than 6 weeks after applying for citizenship/naturalisation?

The Irish Immigration .ie website says on the "Home/How to become a citizen/Become an Irish citizen by naturalisation" page (which I can't link), that "If you are outside the State for longer than 6 weeks after you submit your application, you must notify ISD by letter or email to explain why"

Either they are being nice and and won't aks for documents while you are away... or at some point they check the flight passenger database and see a long absence they can arbitrarily deny the application. Or even worse, they could take your letter of notification and use that to deny your application.

The 6 weeks obviously lines up with the "6 weeks per year" before the application, rather than with the 28 days that the ISD gives you to respond with requests for documents.

Also it doesn't say if you have to notify before you travel or just if you end up stuck outside for a long time.

I've heard that EU and UK folk have often spent long periods outside Ireland without it affecting their application, but then again they were never asked to fill in the reckonable residence calculator in the first place. And many non-EU folk have taken trips that add up to more than 6 weeks per year after the applying, and nothing bad happened.

But do any non-EU/UK nationals have experience with notifying ISD about a single long trips, or not notifying and being asked about a long trip? What happened?
