Doing the full test in Dublin as someone from outside

    Hi all,

I'm from Cork but currently living in Dublin. I failed my first test last summer in Cork and but never bothered to try again as it was around that time I moved to Dublin and had no need for a car. Now that the backlog has cleared a bit I'm looking to get my license before my permit expires, but as I'm working Monday to Friday I'll have to do it in Dublin.

Can someone advise me what centre to do it at? I'm currently living in D1 and it seems Raheny is closest to me but a friend from work said he failed there twice before passing and didn't recommend it. I will also need to rent a car and do a pretest lesson, so if anyone knows any instructors please let me know.

(If it makes any difference, I'm quite confident driving but I have little to no experience driving in Dublin)

    Much appreciated

Like a ghost town round here Mezzanine. Best to do your test where you're living and working and can do lessons during the day, after work etc.

Don't let people failing in a centre put you off, at least 50% fail! Only centre that I've heard to avoid is Finglas, too many small roundabouts and speed bumps on the routes.

This is water. Inspiring speech by David Foster Wallace https://youtu.be/DCbGM4mqEVw?si=GS5uDvegp6Er1EOG

Don't think it makes much difference which dublin centre you pick. They all have below average pass rates. Finglas (where I did my test) was always seen as the worst but raheny has overtaken it. just pick the one closest to you and practice, practice, practice on the test routes.

From Longford but live and sat my test in Dublin a couple of year ago. I done mine in Tallaght and found it was okay. I think its all down to how you perform on the day rather than the actual location of the test centre

you can see the pass rates for the different centres for 2018 in the link below. there is a wide variation.

generally most country people will have difficulty driving in the big smoke but if you practice enough you should be grand. dublin traffic is different than down the shticks.

I'm not from Dublin but passed in tallaght. I did all my lessons in the area (near my work) and there aren't too many mini roundabouts estates that will trip you up compared to raheny.

Without meaning to patronise, if your good enough driver to pass you will pass anywhere.
