Covid cert: Land in Dublin, don't leave the airport and leave a few hours later

    Hi all,

I am flying in to Dublin under one booking at 11:20am (DXB-LHR-DUB with Emirates and code share), not leaving the airport. I then leave Dublin at 14:00ish with Emirates. I will have my covid cert 72 hours prior to my flight from Dubai to Dublin, this will still be within 72 hours of my next flights departure and arrival, however Emirates are telling me I need a covid test from Ireland to board the next flight, but I am only on the ground 3 hours.

    Has anyone experience with this?

Are these booked on separate tickets?

are you flying from Dubai to Dublin for 3 hours only - sorry if I’m mid reading it?

@endofrainbow They are separate tickets but booked with the same carrier (albiet the last leg is a code share)

Ticket 1: DXB-LHR-DUB Emirates and Aer lingus (codeshre) , this is our return leg of an earlier leg.

    Ticket 2: DUB-DXB Emirates

@Van.Bosch Correct, I am in Dublin for approx 3 hours. I need to drop our daughter home and she is too young to fly alone. Her mum will be in Ireland, I will land, say goodbye and go straight on another plane back to DXB. A lovely 22.5 hours flying in 24 hours with work the next day.

I think you've just highlighted the problem, you will be landed in Dublin. If you were staying airside you may have been able to challenge it but I suspect it's leaving the zone that is the reason for them wanting a new test.

    That's a major PITA.

I always thought it was mad you could use a covid test in ireland, go to the UK or Europe for 48 hours and use the same one coming back - that’s what was allowed when testing was required for Ireland.

Seems the UAE is not as flexible and maybe cleverer about it which doesn’t give you many options.

if you could change your flights to a day later you’d be grand but that may not suit. The Friday flight to Dubai seems later, if you could get in from LHR at then time above and leave in the 6pm flight you could do it but that assumes Friday works.

    Cheers for the answers.

@Caranica I guess I could check in for my flight from Dublin online but can you land in and stay airside? As in when I have landed in Dublin, somehow not go through passport control and walk somewhere to my next flight? My kid would be well able to collect her luggage and meet her mum, just not do the whole flight alone.

@Van.Bosch Sadly due to work commitments its straight in and then I have to leave. Its all a bit strange, I have been on to Emirates a few times now and they have given me unclear answers, they said they will email me but I am not holding my breath.

The US allow for proctored tests, Abbott Labs supply such a test, but they appear to also have a 24hr cert return time though. Do Dubai offer similar?

Option #2 might be to pre-book an antigen test in a local pharmacy as I understand that the documents are provided instantly. This group are in Whitehall near the airport.

    Dubai requires a PCR test.

Randox do an Express PCR test in T2 which promises results in 1-3 hours, which would be cutting it fine, but it's your only option I suspect.

Sick of forking out for these PCR tests, bit of a scam. I have booked the rapid pCR in Dublin airport so finger crossed. I will not be checking in luggage so that's a plus.

It appears to be a Dubai requirement, nothing to do with Dublin from what you say

God damn it just paid for the PcR test and Emirates just sent me this...

"PCR test certificates issued in the UAE can be used for re‑entry if they are still within the validity period of 48 or 72 hours as required for travel from the departure country."

Next step getting my cash back from Randox

You could always try to contact the Boob-aye-two about advice for day trips from Dublin<->Dubai. Or your man the unemployed "male model" who was nabbed with all the cash. 😉
