New Car/Old Car Question

I have just bought a new (secondhand) car. I've paid for it and due to collect it in the next couple of days. I am hoping to sell my current car myself but there will be an overlap. I know I can change my insurance over online to cover me immediately for my new car but if anyone wants to test drive my present car with a view to buying it what happens as the car will longer be insured?

Some people will have their own insurance which may have an extension that allows them to drive other cars.

In those situations they would be covered.

Anyone who does not have this and you have transferred over your own policy would be driving as an uninsured driver.

I suspect your current policy may not even cover someone for a test drive.

    Check small print.

Thanks for the response. Would it be possible to take out a second policy, just for TPFT, on my now uninsured car until I can sell it then cancel that policy and get a refund on the remaining time when cancelled?

regarding 2nd policy TPFT as your NCB will be with the policy on your new car this could be expensive.

Also depending on the value of the old car TPFT only could be unappealing to insurers.

Depending on how long it takes to sell it this could be an expensive option.

    Try sell as seen?

Even if you had insurance on it no one other than anyone named on the policy or a mechanic would be insured anyway.

As mentioned above a lot of policies cover driving other cars so the buyer would be insured by their own policy, but you should check with them.
