Has anyone received their passport before the estimated time on the website? I renewed my child plus got my other child their first passport but the first time passport is only due the day we fly. I'm not too hopeful that it will make it. (I applied longer than the 40 working days)

See the big huge pinned passport thread for loads of recent examples. But basically, next to no chance you'll have that first passport on time.

I renewed my passport online at 12.15 pm and had it delivered by An Post the following morning at 9.15 am. Can’t get faster than that!

Totally irrelevant to the OP, there are massive delays with first time passport applications. They are taking months and months and people who booked travel without having the passports are getting caught out.

The solution to that issue then isn’t overly complicated……don’t book anything unless you have a passport.

That's what the official advice is. Unfortunately not always heeded.

Or perhaps the solution is resourcing the passport office adequately so that applicants do not have to wait for periods in excess of 3 or 6 months to enjoy their constitutionally protected right to travel and obtain a passport for that purpose.

Did you get your passport in time?

Can i ask if anyone knows roughly how long the 'processing' stage takes? (Stage 4)

I've been waiting 3 months and counting for my sons passport. flight booked for this week and absolutely no way to contact them!!! Absolute farce of a system!

    Any suggestions welcomed

    Thanks!

Daughters first time passport arrived today. Applied in March. It was pretty much bang on the date it said would be issued,5th May. Now we are waiting for our sons which has an issue date of 10th May.

If you are badly stuck I'd contact your local TD which I know is terrible but if you can't get anyone on a phone or webchat then why not.

It's not always that straightforward, especially if a baby arrives after a trip has been booked or worse again bad news forces an unplanned trip; the condescension above is pretty nasty tbh.

If they've disconnected their phones and shut down webchat then you have very little choice other than to go to the office in person.

It's not condescending at all, it's the official position, and yes there will always be exceptional circumstances, and in the case of your second example those cases will always get priority.

Their phone and webchat systems are overloaded because of people who ignored the advice. All dates given by the passport office are estimated, not guaranteed.

As for going into the office, the offices are appointment only and you won't achieve anything for an application that has already been submitted.

Actually it is, they've closed phone and email so the only form of contact open is to visit in person, appointment or not, they're a service provider and they're failing badly by cutting off communications, timelines will always vary by demand, that's understandable, but shutting coms is pretty rubbish service you'll have to admit, it translates badly; they're hiding from the people they're supposed to help.

Look at the passport megathread, people are getting through on the phone and on webchat.

No service has infinite resources, if so many people weren't looking for passports to be expedited the phone lines wouldn't be so busy. It's a vicious circle.

The people-facing agents in the physical offices can't help first time applications that have already been submitted. Online adult renewals are being turned around in 24 hours. First time passports have extra security because every renewal is based on having been granted a passport in the first place. Security checks take as long as they take, they can't be rushed.

The phone lines and web hat have been shut down for the past while, bar sporadic chat opportunities that crash, how can someone make an appointment bar in person is all other lines of contact are closed?

Not knocking the service, they’ve always been excellent in my experience but this thing of closing down coms is ridiculous and shocking service really, we deserve better than that.

Renewed the kids passports there recently, you can enter the application number in a tracker, but in small print it says its NOT guaranteed !

    Q. Whats the best insurance to get if the holiday has to be cancelled ? flights & accommodation booked separately
