    Hi

Have an issue with the dishwasher - the plug's neutral pin is obviously getting very hot, having melted some of the coating and the plastic surround of the plug itself, see pictures. Also small bit of corrosion on the earth pin.

Any idea what might cause this? Faulty appliance, faulty plug or faulty socket?

It's usually connected to double socket with water softener which is operating fine.

Given that it doesn’t look like the original plug, I’d assume it hasn’t been fitted properly or is not appropriate for the dishwasher.

id also double check the wall socket,

there may have been an issue with the contacts on the socket not connecting properly. As already suggested, replace the socket and plug top.

    What meercat said.

The screw terminal may have been over-tightened (breaking some of the copper-strands) or too loose (not making sufficient contact). It doesn't look like anything more serious.

Replace both the socket and plug.

ensure that all connections are tight.

Something's definitely loose - as per above, change the socket and the plug. Make sure all contacts are firmly connected and and that the plug fuse is well seated.

as others have said the problem here was in the socket... replace both...

I'd also advise that you get a good quality socket - not some non-brand cheapo thing.

For the extra couple of Euro, you'll get quite likely a better design of contacts.

Pick up a socket like MK, Hager, Schneider etc etc are all available very cheaply in any electrical wholesaler.
