CGT due on a PPR that was also rented out.

    Hi,

I am trying to calculate the CGT due on selling my PPR.

I rented it out at various times over a few years so I need to calculate the chargeable time.

I am wondering how the Revenue wants me to record the proportion of any year that I lived in the house, or if I can count any period I lived there as a year?

    For example

    * I rented out the house until September 2006, and then I moved in (and stayed for 3 years). Do I count 2006 as a year of PPR CGT exemption, or 75% of a year?

    * I rented the house out until July 2016, and then moved back in (for 5 years). Do I record my time there as a year or 0.5 of a year?

Also, at some point in owning the house I transferred from Galway to Dublin for work, within the same company. After 2 years I changed jobs but remained in Dublin. And then moved back to the house in Galway. My second question is if I can claim the 4 years CGT PPR exemption in that instance?

Thanks, any guidance would be appreciated.
