Top 24 ranked players play in this tournament starting Friday with the top 8 getting a bye into round 2. Noppert and Aspinall withdrew and were replaced by Whitlock and Pietersen. Good to have some darts back and this is better than some of the invitational tournaments out there. Also PL line up wont be confirmed till after this tournament finishes, so maybe a chance for someone to stake a late claim for a place with a win.

    Friday January 28 (1900 GMT)

    Rob Cross v Brendan Dolan

Dimitri Van den Bergh v Ian White

Dirk van Duijvenbode v Simon Whitlock

    Devon Petersen v Luke Humphries

    Second Round

    Afternoon Session (1245 GMT)

    Jose de Sousa v Cross/Dolan

    Gary Anderson v Cullen/Gurney

    Michael Smith v Ratajski/Clemens

    James Wade v Chisnall/Bunting

    Evening Session (1900 GMT)

I find it very hard to be interested in these non-ranked tournaments. I don't understand why this one couldn't have the top 16 with 8 qualifiers and make it ranked.

Even as is with the Top 24 there's no reason why it couldn't be ranking, there's nothing to stop anyone qualifying for the Top 24.

It wouldn't be that different to the Matchplay which is Top 16 from from each of the 2-year and 1-year lists, or something like that.

I get what you mean alright, but its definitely better than that world masters series and even the Premier League. At least it is the top 24, think that its the first of the year adds to the appeal as well. Good shout re having qualifiers though.

I think this is the most exciting of the non ranked events. Always interesting to see what happens after the world's . MvG needs a good start to the year. Price will have fire under his arrse. Will wright still be in form. I fancy Smith to win it

I'm looking forward to this. A few players will be trying to stake a claim for a premier league place and we all saw how Clayton's career took off after winning this last year

Does the prize money count towards the order of merits?

Ratajski wins the first game 6-5. Clemens had 6 or 7 match darts tho

Good performance from Chizzy mid 90 average

Hon Searle....Price next will be a stiffer proposition though

Impressive from both chizzy and searle

    Dolan really poor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,801 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

Dolan's form has gone since the world matchplay

    Think Dirk wins 6-2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,801 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

Dirk is really struggling hitting T20. His T19 bailing him out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,693 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Surprised that whitlock cruising through this. Think he's on a fairly big downward slant

Whitlock pretty clinical there.. Dirk very poor..

Disappointed in DVD but he's been like this last 6 months. He only seems to throw his game when he's on verge of defeat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,693 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Poor enough fare overall, but to be expected given the first tournament of the year and big guns only joining tomorrow. Some impressive stuff from chizzy, Searle and humphries. Think cross will beat de Sousa too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,693 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Rob cross needs 8 to win the leg. Throws d8 first dart and walks up thinking he's won the leg and yer man announces no score

    Who would have thought it?

A miscount in a de souza match and it his opponent who did the miscount 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,693 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Cullen fairly dismantled Anderson there 10-1

I caught the Cullen game. He was unbelievable. Nice 167 checkout.

Big win for chizzy there for chizzy over smith. Great game to start the day

You would think they have a decent Board for the players anyway.

    Hard call it at minute

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,693 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Cullen puts out mvg. Only Clayton of the four left has really been in the PL line up talk. If one of the others win this it will be interesting to see if they end up making the 8

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,693 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Very impressive from chizzy

Be great to see Chizzy v Cullen final

I don't mind which one wins, both of them have played some darts this tournament

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,693 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Two best players of the tournament in the final. Quite the game ahead, 60k for the winner vs 25K for runner up. Also, there is a chance this is a match to decide the last place in the PL

Delighted for Joe, seems like a no drama lovely lad, with a really smooth throw. Almost threw it away, hopefully that win will help with the mental side of his game because he’s got all the tools to be a top player if that side of his game clicks

    TbL

Delighted for Cullen. Played so good all weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,693 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Emotional scenes at the end

Great stuff, most enjoyable ending :-)

I reckon they stick him in the PL now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 692 ✭✭✭US3

They kind of have to after waiting until after this to announce the line up. Ridiculous that a meaningless unranked event is the criteria when players have had a great year or great run in a biggie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 692 ✭✭✭US3

Cullen only the 12th man in BDO/PDC history to win his first televised final..

I do think euro tours should be included in these kind of stats , they're played on stage infront of a crowd with cameras, same thing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,051 ✭✭✭boomdocker

Ya but if all the others who lost were paying Chizzy, it would have increased their odds of winning dramatically!

Delighted for Joe, but Chizzy should have been able to apply more pressure after Joe missed all those match darts, but Chizzy did what Chizzy does, wilted like a lettuce

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,842 ✭✭✭roosterman71

Is there anywhere that has stats from the tournament. Looking to see how many 180s were in the entire thing
