Hi. I have a Vw Golf 2014 bluemotion . I put it for the test last week and it failed on front fog light not working. I didn't realise they checked front fogs . Needless to say it passed last year without them

Anyway there is small fog lights in the bumper that never work along as I have the car. I found the fuse and relay they wired from but no signal wire there. I reckon they were connected to the main beam once. The light switch has only one setting which is for the rear light. Would you class this vehicle having front fog when the switch isn't there even

    This from RSA website.

It is not mandatory for fog lights to be fitted to vehicles however where fitted they must work otherwise the vehicle will fail its roadworthiness test. For further information see the Reasons for failure in NCT and CVRT Manuals.

Best get an auto electrician to have a look at it. If you don't know one ask around.

I had a 2000 Bora which came with factory fitted fog lights which you turned on by turning the light switch to the extreme right, if you then pulled out the switch, the offside rear light cluster (only) had another bulb which lit up, it failed (a visual) on this at one NCT when around 16 years old. I can honestly say that in almost 59 years of car ownership that the head lights in this car were truly abysmal and I drove it always when on country roads for 19 years with the fog lights on (probably illegally) but used to switch them off when on dipped beams with a approaching vehicle. I think the reason was that everything was in the headlight(s) cluster, including the indicators.

Nothing wrong with linking them to the rear fog I suppose

As long as they switch on/off you should be ok.

Is it possible there was damage to the front of the car at some stage and wires were left disconnected?

Wouldn't think so as it feed from the battery to relay through a fuse. Looks tidy but definitely not original

    Not Your Ornery Onager

There might be blanking plates available from VW? The car *may* have come without front fog lights originally.
