    Hi All

My toyota 2.0d4d Car passed its NCT smoke test with reading of 0.75 however on its last two tests

(one was 8 months ago) is was 0.09. What would cause such a deterioration in just 8 months?

Car is well minded and regularly serviced etc... Any ideas?

Would your driving style have changed with Covid where you are not doing much non urban driving? Had you been sitting in the car in NCT car park with engine running before the test?

Thanks for the comment - car was well warmed up and I didn't do anything differently

from last time. Glad it passed was just wondering whether it indicated deterioration in engine or

    seals or something like that.

Coming up on a service maybe? That engine can chew the oil to bits when it's getting near service time.

Yes indeed - will change oil before next one. Thanks

    PS

What would you regard as decent oil interval on D4D 2.0 engines? Toyota say 15k KM

Toyota engines tend to dictate the intervals themselves 🙂, the level will stay on max for ages and all of a sudden it starts to drop as it becomes due, I'd stick closer to 10k.

All depends by load and oil/filter quality. You can ask to reduce or increase the service remainder km/time
