A friend of mine works full-time as a teacher in Dublin and wants to buy a house in Galway they have the deposit and can manage the mortgage payments on the house in Galway while living in Dublin.

the reason they want to buy in Galway is that the intend to move back there in the next couple of years and at the moment they would just spend their weekends and summer holidays there.

The first bank they approached were not interested as the house was too far away from where they worked.

The second bank said because it was more than an hour and a half commute they wouldn't be inclined to lend.

Has anybody else had a similar situation or do they know if all lending institutions have this criteria?
