Birth registration/certificate

Hi all,

Didn't now where to begin in terms of correct forum so please move if incorrect. Galway chosen as that's where we live :)

We have a newborn which we are bringing to the city on Monday morning to register him. Late last year there were many media reports of very long delays, up to 3 months or more.

We need to travel in the short term and obviously the baby cannot get a passport until he has a birth cert.

Has anyone here any recent experience of how long the process is taking?

Took us about a half hour back in mid October for our then 2 week old. You can speed up the process by filling out the required forms online and emailing to them and then just confirming details in the office.

Oh really, didn't even think the forms were editable. I must look again.

Did you get a birth cert there and then? Maybe it was the trauma of newborns but I can't even remember how it went for the 2 older kids!

Can I ask if you are Galway based? Maybe it was other parts of the country that had delays.

Ya Galway city, we used the office over in Shantalla. And ya we got the cert there and then. I rang them on the day before and your man said to fill out as much online as you could and send it across to speed it up on the day. We were taken in after a 10-15 minute wait and she took our id's and info and we paid then. Very easy all considered.

Very good, fingers crossed we have the same luck.

Just looking at the DFA website and the turnaround time for a first time passport is 40 days 🤦‍♂️
