We love otters...but we love Dodder Otters more!

Although I walk the river daily, seeing one is a rare event. One weekend before the shoot I briefly spotted one in the morning between Ballsbridge and the DART bridge. I could only go back to the same spot at the same time on the following weekend, and luckily I got to see it again! The Otter was feeding and swimming downstream and I was fortunate to get great views all the way down to the Liffey.

This picture was taken at Grand Canal dock with the Otter located under one of the small floating platforms.

I have not seen the Otther in the area since, I am sure it will be back.

    2 take aways from this

    1. The picture is not techincally good. It was very dark under the platform and I shoot with a small sensor camera. But I think people like it because of the subject and the lighting? It is not the first time I take a picture I don't love (technically not very good) but other people like, so I need to constantly remind myself about that.
    2. Hands down the most enjoyable part of that morning was when other walkers got to see the Otter, many after asking me what I was photographying. We all try to be responsible with wildlife locations, but when it is the right thing to do and I can share a sighting I do so, because nothing is comparable with the joy that that brings to people.
