VW Polo Oil Filter Barrel Nipple

Changed the oil+filter on the (Jan 2019) above yesterday, had been dealer serviced for the 3 year warranty period, thought the filter felt a bit tight as they usually more or less spin off once the seal is broken. I found the barrel nipple had almost fully unscrewed from the block, just retightened it and installed the new filter. The same thing developed on a Bora but only after 10 years. I thought these nipples would be locktighted or more firmly located/locked in the block. So a word of caution, always check that the nipple is screwed firmly home in the block before installing the new filter to avoid a nasty surprise like the filter not sealing properly or even worse.

Why have VW gone back to the traditional canister filter?, they used the cartridge type for years, which I never liked, but easier to change as it was higher up on the engine and vertical.
