I'm wondering if I buy a tv from Newry with a Freesat tuner, will I be able to use it in the south? I'm thinking of getting an LG from Currys. Will it work for freesat with my old sky dish and the aerial for Irish channels. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Im no expert on these things but as far as I know every HD TV is capable of receiving Saorview. Every TV I've had (bar 1) over the years was bought in NI and I never had a problem. You wont have any issues with the free to air or Freesat channels regardless of where is bought.

Yeah, it'll be fine usually, I'm not familiar with many LG set that doesn't have Freesat tuners currently. Any specific model in mind?

Just if you want Freesat channels with EPG to work, set your TV to UK and (as far as I remember offhand) stick in a relevant postcode and the channels will arrange and populate the EPG automatically.

Then if you scan the Saorview channels, they'll all be scattered in the 800's, but can be manually changed to 1, 2, 3, etc

LG TV's don't have both terrestrial and satellite channels in the same channel lists, but they do allow shortcuts using the 0-9 buttons. For example, you could go to RTE1 on Saorview, and long-press 1 and that'll have RTE1 on long-press 1, then flick thru Saorview channels. Then maybe, work your way to Freesat and maybe have BBC1 on, long-press 2 button and now BBC1 will be workable when you long-press 2, and then you can peruse the Freesat channels.

In the example above, you'd then long press 1 for Saorview and long press 2 for Freesat channels. You can even have long-press shortcuts for HDMI inputs or specific online apps.

Both Saorview and Freesat will work, only issue you may have is if you had Sky Q, the LNB is different but its not a big issue to swap it out.

Most if not all TVs sold in the UK are the exact same models sold in the Rep of Ireland (physical stores - DID, Currys, Harvey Norman, Argos, Richer Sounds, Power City etc.)
