Heat Pump Radiators

    Hello Group,

I got a quote to install a Heat Pump in an existing house and it's recommending I replace my radiators. The house is 22 years old and the radiators are all double rads. I am reading mixed reviews on replacing/keeping existing rads but wanted to get some opinions from here as new rads are adding an extra €4,000 to the price.

    Thanks

    I

If you have room, maybe adding some more rads is an option? What will matter is having enough heat output for each room at the lower flow temperature from a heat pump.

Have you had a proper heat loss calculation done for the house and each room. You need to get this right or face disappointment and supplementary heating in the future.

Putting in a higher powered heatpump to make up for undersized radiators downgrades the efficiency of the heat-pump.

I've never done calculations on it, so it might be as cost-effective as replacing all radiators. But certainly not making the most of a heatpump.

im not sure how it would work with old radiators,

our heat pump radiators only ever get lukewarm to touch (despite heating the room very well) its quiet the departure from the traditional scalding hot ones i was used to.

If a heat pump is work going for it's worth getting the proper rads too.

It's hard enough to make a heat pump work in existing older housing stock without trying to do with with the wrong rads.

Personally I'm not convinced that the costs make sense to bring older builds up to A rating.
