Enhanced illness benefit

Hi there,

Wondering if anyone knows, I am self employed but fall below taxable income. Got covid & applied for enhanced illness benefit. They emailed today looking for proof of expenses/contracts for work etc as proof. Is this payment only for people who pay tax? Husband pays all right but my income is low.

Hi, it is also open to self employed however you must be able to confirm this . They can easily check PAYE employees through contributions with Revenue payroll data, it's probably a little more complicated to check those self employed hence why they are looking for additional information. It's also important to stress employees must have worked one of up to four weeks prior to applying for this payment to qualify, people wrongly assume its open to everyone, it is not. I presume SW will seek proof of income/ turnover from self employed in much same as they can check for paye workers.
