Garden wall mounted shelf to hold a pizza oven

    Hi all,

I've an Ooni Koda 16" pizza oven I want to install a garden wall mounted "floating" corner shelf for and looking for a steer on how best to do that.

I want to place it in the corner of my garden where a cavity block shed wall meets a solid block exterior wall and I'm thinking if I install 2 large (24" / 60cm) folding shelf brackets, one on each wall and screw some form of weather resistant 80cm X 80cm MDF or equivalent to the brackets it would provide more than enough support for the 30kg pizza oven as the brackets are rated to support up to 150kg.

    Good plan / bad plan?

    Anyone got any other ideas?

What's the best material to use to for the top and where to get?

    Thanks for reading.

I have the Koda 16" and I don't think it weighs 30kg, does it?

The concern I'd have about ply is pooling, assuming you're not going to roof it. Would you not use some nice hardwood decking instead? You'd need to drill more holes or run a couple of battens along the tops of the shelves.

And that's exactly why I need advice like this, thanks Lumen!! I guess I could make up an 80cm X 80cm square with decking which is held together by some battens underneath and then screw that to the hinges?

I said 30kg as I read the delivery weight was 27kg but that included all the packaging etc

    A quick google confirms it's only 18kg.

Nah, screw the battens to the brackets (going in-out parallel to the top of the bracket) and then screw the decking to the battens. For spacing, always use at least 5mm gap wherever you want drainage.

I've actually got a fair few offcuts of larch (or maybe yellow balau) and hardwood batten you can have if you're close to north east Wicklow.

Other people might have better ideas though.

    Hi Policarp,

What instructions are you referring to? The oven doesn't come with any instructions for building a shelf other than it states whatever you place the oven on needs to be able to hold 30kg albeit the oven itself only weighs 18kg.

Got round to building the floating shelf eventually. I used composite decking which I figured would look better and last longer than regular decking. It looks better in the photo than it actually is as its a bit rough to be honest but it'll do the trick.

    Thanks for the help.

Might paint the supporting batons white one of the days just to make it blend in a little better.

Or you could screw another batten under the front lip and put a "fascia" strip of composite decking across the front. Might make it look a bit neater and more substantial.
