Missing satellite channels on Sony TV

I have my Sony TV (KD55X81JU) connected to my Sky satellite dish.

Doing a tune I picked up something like 77 FTA channels. However I'm missing most of the key ones. I only got ITV HD of the terrestrial UK ones.

I have others like Sky News, France 24, FreeSport HD and lots of well crap...

Any ideas where the others are? Has it got to do with the LNB. I don't know which one I have and can't access easily. Or is it that I can only plug in one of the two coaxial cables from sky?

It sounds like you have the Sky Q LNB, so you would need to change to a standard universal LNB unless that model TV has a setting for the wideband LNB

Thanks. From looking elsewhere online I have seen people say they get no channels. So I'm surprised I get some.

Would like to be sure before I get someone out to do an install / change.

If you can access the dish its relatively straightforward to change

Out of interest did you select FREESAT to scan channels from the outset? How old is the dish and did you have sky beforehand? Can you see lnb and count number of outputs? And better still take a pic.

Did you set your TV location to UK? My LG when set to UK only grabs a limited set of Freesat channels but finds far more if set to ireland. It's a pain, because in Uk mode the channel browser is far better, grabbing all the channel program info. Set to here, It only grabs the program info of a few random channels and to populate the info for the others - most of which are freesat channels - you have to select them individually and wait 10secs for it to fetch and display the info. Very annoying knowing it could be a lot better.

Generally I have found that a TV with built in sat tuner usually has a horrible scan, save and order function. I have tried several and they all have had various quirks that left out channels, some didn't even have the ability to manually add channels that I know the tune specs for. A latest Blaukpunt model, misses channels no matter what type of scan is used and then it randomly re-orders channels that are saved to a favourite menu. Connecting the same dish to a bog standard FTA box, pulls everything in.

A FTA box has never failed to find and save all channels available. I know there is more channel management involved, but at least you can get to see all the channels you are looking for, in the first place.

Both my previous Panasonic and my current LG pulled in 100's more channels than I ever wanted to watch and you can manually input channel data. Not much missing that I can see when I have occasionally checked on Lyngsat. The LG has far better and nicer menu functionality than I experienced previously with a Lidl bought sat box or one made by Nokia, despite the program info fetching quirk.

Set to the UK. I'll try and get a picture tomorrow.
