Just for interest - this is a pic of a timing chain, where is the crankshaft?

Just out of curiosity I came across this photo of a timing chain. I think the camshaft is on the left. What is the thing on the right?

I thought the crankshaft was at the bottom of the engine. Maybe the belt from camshaft to crankshaft is on the other side of the engine?

They are both most definitely camshafts, the one on the right is intake and the one on the left is exhaust. Other than that, there isn't much I can offer.

It is possible that there is another chain behind those sprockets that are directly connected to the crankshaft.

The off-white plastic bit in between is the timing chain guide.
