CVRT failure due to rusted chassis VIN

At the CVRT centre last week, the tester failed my old 4x4 as the VIN number stamped on the chassis has been completely eaten away by rust. I mean completely. Said it was a major fail, and the number needs to be replaced. No one I've spoken to has come across this before. Not even the main dealer. I don't know if it needs the number to be re-stamped, or if a simple plate will do. It's a nightmare. Has anyone been through this before? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Happened me with an nct, they gave me a vin form to be completed by psv officer in garda station. Waiting on an appointment.

OK, that's interesting. Do you think the form will be enough to close the issue off, or will you still be required to get the VIN re-stamped onto the chassis?

Not a problem, get a blank VIN plate and stamp the relevant details on to it and rivet it to the chassis.

I was told I would need to keep the form and bring it with me each year to get the NCT.
