Real Fur Coat

Hope someone here can advise. A friend has inherited a fur coat and I suggested he sell it. It was purchased in the States by his relative in the 50's or 60's so it's very old. I'm sure the coat cost a fortune at the time. I noticed there were fur coats in a recent auction, mink and leopard. I have never attended an auction so I don't understand the jargon. I saw 'Hammer €100' on one, what does that mean? Any suggestions on what my friend should do with the fur coat, is anyone even interested in them these days? Can they be upcycled even?

"Hammer €100" means it sold for €100

Thanks for replying. It answers my question then, looks like nobody is really interested in them any more.

There would be specific furs and furriers that hold more value, but really the time has passed. In the 90s "it's vintage!" worked to put off most complaints about exotic furs but not anymore

Barnardo's fur shop is in a prime location at the bottom of Grafton St. But I doubt if you'll find many buyers for a second-hand coat.

They're not worth megabucks these days what with fur shaming and the animal rights people. Even less if they have animal heads still stuck on them, they give people the creeps these days.

There may be more interest in the UK where they have a bigger more developed vintage clothes wearing scene than here.
