If there is anybody left on this island who hasn't already got one...

ALDI have the NOW TV smart stick for €14.99 on Sunday 7th November.

The package shows a one month Entertainment pass and Movies Pass - I presume it's both, not either/or.

No comparison. It's a cheap standalone streaming device for NowTV via subscription, YouTube & limited preloaded apps. Cannot be sideloaded with other apps. Remote has voice integration but no Alexa/Google AFAIK

If all you're looking for is a cheap stick for watching Now TV, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, RTE, Virgin & Channel 4 players, then it's the dog's bollox.

Yep this, we use on older tv and after sub for Now tv is up, it's still handy for Netflix and youtube. From time to time free subs come up with 3plus and bord Gais rewards

It keeps working fine on everything else apart from the subscription stuff. I got mine a couple of years ago for Game of Thrones, and haven't renewed since. It runs the rte, tg4, Virgin players, ARTE, and a few others with free stuff. And most important it run the wonderful All4, with amazing amounts of Channel 4 and US box sets like The wire, Him Street Blues etc! There's a load of oddball stuff like Ratuken? etc but these are mainly subs, or stuff you wouldn't water your time with.

Update! There's some other varieties in Tesco. One has 1 month Entertainment, 1 month Cinema,and 1 WEEK Sports tickets all for €20, and the other had 1 month each Sport and Sports Extra for €25

If you're not currently subscribed to NOW TV, activate the 3Plus code for a free month's Entertainment & Cinema first before you set up the stick.

Edit: Actually, use two 3Plus codes a day apart and you'll get two free months and then set up your stick!

No, it's a locked-down Roku stick. iPlayer is only available on the UK version. You can't convert an Irish stick into a UK stick or vice versa.

It depends on your TV. Age, app availability, is it getting slow, etc. It's a very cheap fix to an aging TV if you only want the main streaming apps.

So can't seem to find an answer maybe someone here knows, have a Disney + and Netflix sub already if I get this and link my subs to the stick are they displayed in 720p on this or in full 1080p. I know the actual NOW stuff is 720p but what about the subs I pay for separately?

The smart stick supports 1080p and AFAIK that's what Netflix & Prime display in. They certainly look it to me anyway.

Now TV could be provided in 1080p too if they provided a HD add-on like they do in the UK.

I think it asks you to enter one alright, which it verifies.

Once you've set up your smart stick, you can then cancel your memberships (both have to be concerned separately) to avoid the risk of you forgetting later and being charged when the free passes run out.

No, but if you want an extra two months free then you should set up an account and use the 3Plus codes as I explained there before then setting up the stick.

Anyone else find their NOW TV stick gets red hot after even a few hrs use. I have to take it out of TV every evening... It feels like it's a real fire hazard.
