Castle Leslie vs Lough Erne

    Hi.

Myself and my wife are having a night away in a hotel minus kids for the first time in almost 4 years shortly (arriving around lunchtime on a Thursday and leaving again at lunchtime on the Friday).

I am trying to decide between Castle Leslie and Lough Erne. We would be staying in a lodge in whichever place we book.

We will literally just chill out for the 24 hours - have a few drinks, eat in the restaurant and probably use the leisure facilities on the Friday morning.

If anybody has stayed at both - would love to hear which you preferred and why?

Having researched them online I think I prefer the look of Castle Leslie itself but the Catalina hotel restaurant in Lough Erne looks amazing. Unsure which to choose at the minute.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

We've stayed in both, albeit about eight and ten years ago, so maybe somebody else here will have a more recent opinion.

Both are fabulous, but on balance, I'd probably go for Lough Erne, as I still consider the dinner we had there to be one of the best I've ever had.

Then again, absolutely nothing wrong with Castle Leslie either. So maybe this isn't much help to you after all!

Thanks for the reply. The restaurant is the main reason I'm leaning towards Lough Erne alright to be honest. It is also about 45 mins closer to us. It is more expensive though, as the lodges were all that was available - no hotel rooms left. These are a good bit more expensive than the Castle Leslie lodge bedrooms (as they are an entire lodge).

Just had a look at prices for a couple of random Thursday/Friday stays in the coming weeks, and had a look at both menus too.

Based on the likely price difference and the fact that the dinner in Castle Leslie is damn fine eating too, have to say I'd probably actually go for Castle Leslie if it was ourselves making the decision.

You're bound to have a great stay and a great meal in whichever you choose anyway. Enjoy it!

Just back from Castle Leslie. We went for 1 night and stayed in the lodge superior room. Everything about it was fantastic.

The estate has some nice walks. Rooms fantastic.

We eat in the restaurant. Best meal I've had in a long long time.

Would go back in a heartbeat.
