Hi folks. I am wanting advice on what specs I would need if I want to get a ride on mower/tractor for half acre paddock with a slope which I will need to pull a trailer on now and again with a bag of sand or animal feed, about 40kg. I know what deck size etc, what I need to know is should it be a 4wd or rear wd, and what engine size. Any information at all helpful and much appreciated.

    Hi there

My advice would be to buy a honda HF 2317 (or the bigger HF417). i have a castelgarden PT170HD and my father has the honda and over its life (10 years now) and the honda has been far better with less issues. It's more expensive but if I was back again I would spend the extra if you can afford it.

There are many other options such as mountfield, stiga etc but that's my two cents

My 2 cents, I have a Westwood T1200 since 1996, it is only recently that it is beginning to show its age, gears slipping after about half hour cutting.

My next ride-on will have a front cutter deck, to prevent the front wheels flattening the grass before the cutter (probably the Husqvarna one).

Thanks. I went for the Husqvarna AWD in the end, though over budget. They threw in the trailer for free. Seems to do the job. True about the front cutter giving a better cut. Easier to see too.
