I'm going to visit family in Birmingham on 15th November. I'm concerned re rise in Covid19 and was going to cancel the hotel - won't be able to get refund on flights - they were almost €100. Is anyone else feeling nervous re travelling to UK with the rise in Covid? Do people think it's a bit daft cancelling it. I'm 57 so would be nervous about getting it. I am fully vaccinated, but I know people are getting Covid even though they have been doubly vaccinated.

I'm going to the UK next week and not concerned at all. I'll be taking reasonable precautions and won't be hanging out with anyone who's not vaccinated.

If you're worried don't go, you won't relax or enjoy the trip.

I wouldn't say you are daft to consider cancelling.

The numbers are bad in the UK and people are very relaxed about precautions.

If you can avoid pubs, restaurants, shops, public transport etc. as much as possible you can reduce your risk.

Perhaps talk to your relations and see what they say.

Thanks to both of you for your comments. I am meeting two English cousins and we are staying in an hotel, so we will likely encounter unvaccinated people. When we booked the break about two months ago, we intended to go out for meals, go shopping, visit galleries etc, so we won't be really able to avoid shops, pubs etc - if we were going to their family home, that would not make me so concerned.

You could consider cancelling the hotel and going for an Air BnB thus reducing your contacts.

Maybe try some alternative outdoor attractions although they would be weather dependent.

regarding the flights, is it not possible to rebook in the late Spring/ Early summer if that would suit better, more eating outdoors etc. ?

regarding the risk of catching covid, its an endemic disease like the flu. We will all get it sooner or later, vaccinated or not, adult or child. If you are not chronically ill (cancer etc) or unvaccinated then catching covid only means you get a bit of a cold and thats it. So theres no risk from covid to you as a vaccinated person from a health aspect.

Better still, maybe you wont catch it in England this month, but you almost certainly will catch it in Ireland in the next year anyhow - its inescapable. Either you move to a mountain hut and grow a field of spuds and never have any contact with the outside world, or come to the terms with the fact that youre going to catch covid at some stage. Catching it now will even be a benefit as you'll get an extra boost on top of the vaccine which means that the next time(s) you are exposed to it it most likely wont even have a chance of taking hold.

I was in london last week for 5 nights just wear a mask in shops etc bring hand sanitizer etc.

in Newcastle next week. both for work

both in hotels. honestly felt the most exposed on the flight so had an not mask.

but it's your choice if you dont feel comfortable dont go.
