What is the new legislation that is being being discussed by cabinet this week and where can I read the full legislation?

Can you tell me if it is now law, will be at a certain date in future or is being decided whether it will become law or not?

Was it the Betting (Prohibition on Use of Credit Cards) Bill 2021 https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/bills/bill/2021/125/ ?

This is 'private members bill', not sponsored by the government, which makes me think there is another bill (a bill is an act that hasn't been passed by the Oireachtas yet). Private members bills are rarely adopted. There doesn't seem to have been any other gambling legislation in the last few months.

Would you have a link to what was said?

What I don't get about gambling is the fact the betting companies can take a man for every dime he has, his house, his car, his job, his dignity, his family, but if you make any win against the bookie they shut down your account.

It should be HIGHLY illegal for any bookie to shut down an account of any normal better who just happens to be good at gambling.

Bookmakers will be lobbying hard against a few of those measures.

No mention of Lottery gambling, that should be covered by this too. Shouldn't be allowed to be advertised on tv or radio before 9pm, no advertising within newsagents either.

I think a bet is unenforceable under Irish Contract Law as it would be seeen as immoral.

I am delighted the screw is being tightened on bookmakers. I HATE them. I never bet and never have and never will as I know you lose at the end of the day. They should be banned for advertising sports bets to get young men especially involved in betting.

Gambling addiction is a huge problem and this country is in denial.
