Just wondering on grades of plywood available out there. I'm making up a roof to cover up a septic tank type pump. It's not very big and I will cover it with mineral felt. So marine plywood might be over kill but dont want to use cheap stuff that glue will disintegrate in no time. What's best option here , would OSB work??

Hi @rje66 not an expert by any stretch. I'm not a fan of OSB if it gets wet at all it will go to mush. Because of the surface its difficult to get a decent paint covering.

Marine ply is designed to be in contact with salt water, so overkill I think. A good half way is wbp (weatherproof boilproof ply) you can paint it easily just in case the felt fails.

Just my 2cents. Best of luck.

The distinction between WBP and marine ply is in the glue. Otherwise the most durable plywood is hardwood throughout, then hardwood faced with a softwood core, then softwood.

Marine ply is not intended to come into direct contact with water, that's why it has to be coated with many layers of varnish on boats.

In any case, you're better off with cheaper ply well treated than expensive ply left bare. I'd probably go with WBP ply with three coats of outdoor water-based varnish like https://www.screwfix.ie/p/ronseal-exterior-varnish-satin-clear-750ml/533FG

    Don't use OSB.
