    Runs the gamut.

Supposed to be within 3 months, have had mine take 6-9 months.

Heard from others that theirs were even longer.

On the flipside had mine turned around in 2 weeks on occasion.

If you are curious give your FO a buzz and see have they received it and processed it yet?

My FO is pretty decent and lets me know if there are a lot of renewals or subs or new licences in the queue before mine so I have some sort of time estimate.

Never forget, the end goal is zero firearms of any type.

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009 - Firearms banned & grandfathered

S.I. No. 420/2019 - Magazine ban, ammo storage & transport restricted

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023 - 2023 Firearm Ban (retroactive to 8 years prior)

They should be renewed by then. It's supposed to be a rollover in coverage. That's why they send you the form 3 months before the expiry date. If you have sent it in as early as possible[IE within a week of you getting it] , it's on their ball court to deliver the license within the time frame. If there are no issues that is of course.

I made a request this renewal to increase the number of rounds I could legally possess and also for sound moderators, came back approved within a week! Very pleasantly surprised, paid the fees on Friday, just waiting for the new licences to arrive.

I spoke too soon, received my firearms certs X 2, great! Wrong, home address incorrect, number of rounds incorrect on both certificates and sound moderators not mentioned. Very frustrating, spoke with the Garda who actually took my application in the first instance, he has undertaken to try and get the matters rectified. I've had a firearms licence since 1984 and 2 X since 2007 how can it be so difficult to administer at this point.

3 Renewals and a new application in since 1st week in September. Followed up on not hearing anything, and got: sorry everything (restricted and non-restricted) fell between the cracks (so 2 stations involved). Got new application grant letter today, but nothing on renewals.

I had 3 due to expire on 31 October. 2 non restricted, and 1 restricted. Got the renewal forms on the 8 August, returned them on the 9 August. Got the acknowledgement letter on the 19 August saying they had 3 months to decide (19 November). The 2 non restricted were back within 2 weeks. I only got the grant letter for the restricted this morning. So, in effect, the license had expired, and the non reply before the 19 November meant it was refused. Yet, every time I called, I was told not to worry, I'd be fine.

Got additional license (non restricted) processed and grant letter received inside three weeks.

Maybe like with everything in life here. There is a way it is supposed to be done, and the way it has to be done in reality?

So, license due out end Feb 2022.

Renewal form received 11th Dec, completed and returned to station on 16th Dec.

Further info (club attendance record) requested on 21st Dec, info submitted on 22nd Dec.

Grant letter received today, 18th Jan – happy days. 😃

In the midst of a covid pandemic, lack of staff, etc. etc. and Xmas/New Year holiday period thrown in for good measure, I say that’s a pretty good turn-around in anybody’s books, well done AGS.

I've had different FOs over the years in the same station. It can vary, might be a few weeks, might be a few months. Sometimes I got an acknowledgement letter before the grant, sometimes I didn't. They tend to get a move on at that point license is expiring. IMO you do need to get them submitted ASAP and definitely stay in touch with FO.

Renewal due 3rd March, got renewal just before Christmas, dropped it into local station after New Years break, licence back last week. Well impressed.

Dropped substitute in on 3rd of January, heard from fo on 17th to make sure everything in form was ok and he said he was approving substitute and heard nothing since.Fox everywhere and no rifle to do a bit.It would put you off changing as it's such a random process from county to county.

Since my previous post I have been following up on the matters mentioned (moderators , number of rounds etc.,) Spoke with the Inspector tasked with firearms licencing in my area today, took less than 15 minutes. He agreed all the matters I was concerned about and undertook to have the information in the data base corrected and that my updated licences will be issued from Dublin within the next two weeks. Very pleased with the AGS response and the fact that the Garda officer took the time to ensure that all has been rectified. Mistakes can be made by anybody, being willing to see them rectified, goes a long way!🙂

In total contrast to my renewal of my restricted late last year, my non restricted renewal was totally different. Dropped off the completed renewal form on the 8th February, and got the grant letter today.

Sometimes they are great, other time, shockingly poor.

Well substitute from 17hmr to 223 took exactly 2 months so I suppose I could complain but realistically it's not too bad.

If you pay grant renewal well before expiry date of current licence (e.g. 1/2 months) does new licence count 3 years from payment date or from the expiry date of old licence?

    thanks

From expiry date of old licence. Happened me recently so 100% sure

I handed in two renewals in January. One restricted, one non-restricted. Got the non-restricted grant letter yesterday. No sign of the restricted rifle grant letter yet. That's probably not too slow given the problems thrown up by COVID.
