I've a VW golf mk6 1.6 TDI 90HP which there's no other way of putting it has become rediculas hard on diesel the last few weeks. Also feels more under power that it used to be. Average fuel consumption is saying 4.5l to 100km but I don't know if it can be taken as accurate.

I gave it a full service, fuel filter wasn't to dirty nor was the air filter.

Brake calipers don't seem to be sticking or anything?

What else can I do or look for? Any advice or help appreciated. Thank you.

How are the tyres looking? Perhaps tracking is out or tyres deflated and so increase in fuel consumption.

That was my first job air pressure OK, tyres 80% and the alignment of them perfect. No wear.

Just had a look there 4.5l to 100km is 52mpg which is good for that car. Have you tried brimming the tank, driving until the light comes on refilling and calculating how many litres were used per kilometer, only true way to know. If you are going by cost, fuel has gone up about 30-40% since Biden got in.

Your right that's the only true reading and I'll do it next.

No I'm going by the needle on the fuel clock and where it would sit regardless of price and it seems underpowered for some reason I think.

Underpowered and hungry on juice. If it was the other way round I'd understand.

Unless the EGR valve is stuck open a little bit. Might not always give an engine light fault. You might be able to feel the pipe,if it's anything more than barely warm at idle the valve is open.

Thanks I'll have a check. What would be the solution there clean the EGR valve?

Slightly wrong there. 5.4l per 100km is 52mpg,

    4.5 is nearly 63mpg
