Any assessors out there using BIM software for surveys? Revit or the like? .ifc files?

Having tried this route it just adds more time and complexity to the process and seeing the profit margins are very low in this business I can't see the need.

The initial cost is hard to justify, €8000 per year or something like that for a Revit license. I did a short Revit course a few years back and see the merit of BIM if the properties is fully and correctly inputted in fabric item properties. There are a few free/reasonably priced BIM viewers out there. That said, I feel that there is reluctance from the Design Team to release the files, from our experience anyway. I am currently using Bluebeam Revu, more of a construction based PDF reader. It has the capability to open .ifc files but we haven't really tested it out with a BIM project yet.
