Bringing a dog to the Canaries

Hi,

I'm hoping to move to Gran Canaria for 6 months to work and would like to bring my 7y/o lab with me. I don't know where to start about trying to get her there. Does anyone have any experience of getting pets to the Canaries?

Thanks for the info. What I'm really after is information about how to actually get my dog to the island.

It would depend on the particular flight then and any restrictions a particular carrier might have. e.g.

i Know someone who brought their emotional support dog over from America and they were allowed to bring it into the cabin. I think that was with Aer lingus. You could perhaps claim that your dog is an emotional support animal. Just an idea. I can’t guarantee it will work.

We only accept dogs as service animals for carriage in the cabin of our aircraft. Pets, emotional support animals or service animals in training will not be accepted for travel on board any Aer Lingus aircraft.

Aer Lingus will accommodate accredited trained service dogs onboard our flights within the EU in accordance with EU Regulation 1107/2006. Accredited trained service dogs must be trained by an organization that is accepted by, and affiliated to, the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF) or Assistance Dogs International (ADI). Trained service dogs must have an Assistance Dog Identification Card provided by the qualifying organization.

Pets must be booked through a pet agent at IAG Cargo for carriage on Aer Lingus flights in the aircraft hold.

If your flight (including Aer Lingus Regional flights) or any part of your journey is with a carrier other than Aer Lingus, you will need to contact the other carrier directly for their policies and procedures.

It would take a bit longer to get there but getting a ferry might be an option. You can get a ferry from Ireland to Spain and then from from Cadiz or Huelva in Spain to Gran Canaria.
