Hardly surprising when 3 shops don't even take cash anymore.

It's been on the cards (excuse the Pun) for quite some time. They inherited o2 money and rebranded under 3 money. Shops had stopped doing top ups months ago along with a separate issue with the top up vending machines removed quite abruptly almost two years ago.

I personally thought it was an expensive service,

    Well that sucks.

I got the text about it on Thursday.

I think it could have been the last anonymous pre-paid card still around?

The likes of Skrill, Revolut, N26 etc all require proper ID now.

    Definitely still around

However, contrary to claims on payzones website, finding an outlet that carries the swirl top ups is quite difficult and wouldn't be as widely available as 3Money.

So you're left with topping up by bank account or debit card which kind of defeats the whole purpose of using a pre-paid card.

While most payzone outlets don't carry the card, any payzone outlet can top up a swirl card

    Colour me corrected folks.

I guess it's been quite a while since I looked into Swirl so I was surprised to find that it does seem to be much more prevalent now.

Just to mention that you can top up a SWIRL card with 3money so you can transfer your balance before 3money is wrapped up.

Hardly surprising, I know when I worked for o2 years ago they were actively considering removing it, there was a lot of legal hassle around the cards and people using them for money laundering. I'm more shocked it took them this long to get rid of them.

3v was the best. You could just walk in to most shops and buy a voucher. It was more secure than giving certain companies your credit card details online.

NB: Gentle reminder that the top up facility for 3money will be stopped this Sunday.
