Venice in December

    Hi folks

Is Venice any use in December? (Christmas market etc) - Have been there before in mid-Jan but never in the run up to Christmas (and was there with a friend but this time would be with partner)

Obviously I’d accept it being very cold - and not all restaurants would be open etc but I’d love to go back

Just seeing though if there’s much going on in December there

    Thank you!

It's been a while but was there in Mid December. The lights were really beautiful - all-white everywhere. It was cold, but that's to be expected. We didn't do any market, but it's a quiet time to visit without the usual crowds.

    Thanks v much

Yeh when I was there early Jan a couple of years ago it was fairly chilly too but still did everything and like you said, thought the place was beautiful. Really liked the lack of crowds too

I haven't been in years, but from what I remember, just be prepared: the city gets flooded regularly (especially near the full moon) and the water could be anything from ankle- to thigh-high (I've seen Venetians with waders, rather than with wellies, when it gets that bad). If it's a very cold winter, the freezing humidity gets into your bones. And you could easily find thick fog, to the point where you can barely see your feet.

But it's absolutely magical, and completely worth it.
