Rain shower heads

    Hello,

We'll be replacing the electric shower and retiling the shower enclosure. My plumber is recommending a dual shower head with a "rainfall" big fixed aerated head.

His preferred models are the Mira Dual series, which include the dual shower head and the shower in the same kit. However, these start at a 9.5 kW power rating. I am not sure the wiring is good enough for that. Besides I am thinking of a mains thermostatic model, and Mira does have one in Dual but it is 9.8 kW and nearly 500 Euro; Triton's T80 thermostatic is 8.5 kW and under 200 Euro. (The alternative is to switch to gravity feed from the attic tank, but I am somewhat worried about pump noise as a child sleeps behind the timber stud wall which holds the shower).

The plumber is unsure about the shower being reliable with a third-party dual head, especially because of the added air part. And I could not find a Mira or Triton branded separate dual head kit, so I could at least rely on the shower and kit being from the same maker.

So is it possible to use a third party dual head system while ensuring the shower will work reliably and will not break from it?

You are getting a little muddled. Mira quote 9.8kw for the Mira Elite SE dual. This is based on uk 240v. In Ireland we have 230V so it's actually 9kw here in Ireland.

Id stay clear of a mains fed shower unless it's run from a pump. If you want electric then Triton T90sr silent shower or Mira Elite SE are what you are looking for. Triton are far better quality than the Mira but only the Mira has a dual head. You should be able to source a mira Elite SE dual for under €400. This will be 9kw.

Personally I'd forgo the dual head as it will only put out 3 to 4.5 litres of warm water per minute. Rain head should be on a power shower putting out 20 litres of water per minute.

If you definitely want the dual head look in woodies for the Mira Elite SE dual.
