How has the experience been on the Irish rail? I want to get a train from Kilkenny to Dublin soon. What would be the best time?

I guess so although office returns will not be until much later next month, maybe October. Isn't Irish Rail mainline reserved seats booking only?

Was on the train in June. Had to pre-book tickets online but NO reserved seating due to Covid. Remember thinking at the time that was ridiculous- it’s the time you’d need reserved seats above any other! Any way, was fine. No catering cart but everyone pretty much kept to themselves. No obvious sanitisation taking place tho.

I get the train on the Waterford line regularly and it's usually easy enough to get a set of 4 seats to yourself if you're traveling outside peak times.
