    Hey all!

So this may seem like a bit of a rant mainly because well......it is, but I'm also looking for advise if anyone has any experience in this subject.

Bit of background for you. My better half and I are both from Ireland but live in Manchester for work and have a 3yr old boy keeping us busy. He has spent the majority of his life in some form of travel restriction and has only been home to Ireland once as we have been unable to get him an Irish passport which is preventing us travelling. It may be my insistence on him having an Irish passport which is causing this but has anyone else found it so difficult to get a passport outside of Ireland. We have actively been trying for over 15months at this stage.

We have made 5 attempts and each time we have been rebuffed and had to resubmit as the "witness" was not accepted. There is a list of acceptable witness available here https://www.dfa.ie/passports/how-to-get-your-application-witnessed/

We have tried our local pharmacist who signed the form and a couple weeks later we got a message back to say they would not verify our identities.

Next we attempted our local priest and same again.

Next we tried our local public representative however they would not sign it as they were unaware of the process with Irish passport handling and did not want to breach any guidelines. I did explain the ins and outs of it however they insisted their stance would not change.

Following this we asked our landlord who is also a school secretary if they could sign and they did however we wanted to be honest and give the passport office their office role title which was "School operations coordinator" which is school secretary in all but name. We got an email back to say resubmit as the witness was not on their list of accepted roles.

Most recently we tried a police officer and they attempted 2 calls on the same day but would not reattempt and asked us to resubmit. We spoke with the local police officer and they explained that they were working nights at the time so likely missed the calls as they were asleep. They wouldn't sign again unfortunately.

We have tried to get in touch with our local GP however they will no longer act as witness to passport applications.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and if so, how did you resolve it if you have?

    Any advise would be amazing!

    Is mise le meas,

    Conor
