Suggest replacement for Vodafone's crappy HG659?

Having more and more drop out issues with Vodafone's HG659. Can anyone suggest a decent replacement? I have very old Fritzbox and Draytek ADSL Modem/Routers somewhere in the attic (pre 2010), but I'm reluctant to use them as I'm sure firewall technology has moved on a lot.
