Stay in Glasgow or Edinburgh?

Living in Donegal now and planning a few days in Scotland. Already been to the highlands but not so much the south. I'm planning to take the bus to Belfast and another bus/ferry from Belfast to Glasgow.

I was wondering if Edinburgh is worth the extra hour or so push from Glasgow? Which city is better to stay?

I much much much prefer Edinburgh, I've been countless times and still make new discoveries every time. Have only been to Glasgow once and couldn't wait to get out of the city.

Have to agree with this, I lived in Edinburgh for a few years and loved it. I would go to Glasgow for a few day trips or football games and couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Edinburgh for me, quite a beautiful city, Princes mile, the castle and particularly the park lands, I never seen so many Squirrels in all my life and friendly too. Great restaurants also.

Glasgow, well Grim, depressing, Austre and honestly not very appealing, there's a rough, somewhat unfriendly feeling to the place. Has some amazing architecture but it's destroyed by black soot built up over years of neglect. Very industrial looking and dare I say some of the rudest people I'd ever met ( and I've been to eventful places in my time 😉) I certainly wouldn't recommend it. I too couldn't wait to get out of the place.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

Having worked in Glasgow have to agree with one of the guys from there that Edinburgh is for the tourists. They had cleaned up a lot of the buildings etc the last time I was there however and gentrified some areas that were dodgy.

Having said that you will have plenty of people from Donegal or whose parents were from there to chat to in Glasgow.

Even if I was going to a match in Glasgow (thankfully grew out of that lark in late teens), I'd opt to stay in Edinburgh. There is no comparison really. I've met great people in Glasgow but they're as sound in Edinburgh and it's just a much much nicer place to be.

I'd say Edinburgh also, although I have not visited Glasgow. I really like Edinburgh and would visit it again.
