What is the regulations with placing a fence up on our side of the boundry wall in the rear garden? Is it that the fence cant be higher than 1.2M or is that from the ground level including the height of the wall?

    Thanks

2.0M, over ground level, is maximum (total) height for fence/wall to the rear of the house without the requirement to obtain planning permission.

So if your existing wall is (say) 1.6M high, maximum height of fence on top would be 0.4M.

On a separate matter, always seek structural advice raising the height of a boundary wall (whether raising in block or by adding a timber fence to the top of the wall). Adding a fence to the top of an existing wall is like adding a sail to the wall!
